DON'T SHOOT NORBERT Shift At Midnight
This gameplay video shows why shooting Norbert is the risky choice. Watch it to recognize the encounter and avoid turning a simple customer visit into a later problem.
What to Do When Norbert First Appears
In Shift At Midnight, Norbert is a small gnome who first arrives as an ordinary customer with a fake ID. The low-chaos choice is simple: don't shoot him. Ring up the items he wants, take his payment, and let him walk out.
The fake ID is suspicious, but it is not a reason to attack him. Serving Norbert normally ends the first encounter cleanly.
What Happens If You Shoot Norbert?
Killing Norbert can cause a revenge visit later. One possible encounter has him offer you lemonade; treat that drink as a trap.
Do not drink the lemonade. Drinking it lowers your health and causes a visual effect. It does not immediately kill the player in the documented encounter, but losing health during a shift is still an unnecessary problem.
If you spared him at the start, he may simply leave without showing up again. Don't count on that as a fixed rule, though—later appearances can vary.
Other Norbert Appearances
Norbert can show up in less obvious ways, so watch customers and use your tools when something feels off.
| Appearance | What to do |
|---|---|
| Norbert on a motorcycle | Shoot him before he creates chaos. |
| Norbert hidden in a female disguise | Use the body scanner to reveal him. |
| Norbert offering lemonade | Refuse the drink. |
The female disguise is especially easy to miss if you only rely on the customer's outward appearance. Run the body scanner when you suspect something is wrong.
